What is Present Moment?

What is the Present Moment?

I woke at 2:04 a.m. this morning. My mind was busy, thinking about what happened the day before and planning the day ahead. I told myself to relax and go back to sleep. I bargain with myself at times like this. I told my mind at that moment if it would stop it’s jabbering, I would wake up early, drive to the nearby mountain top and watch the sunrise.

So as I laid in bed, I meditated by rotating my consciousness to all parts of my body until every arm, leg, finger and toe felt heavy and I drifted back into slumber.

I didn’t set my alarm, but I woke up early, as I told myself I would. The sky was black. The clock read 5:22 a.m. I padded to the bathroom, washed my face, dressed, made a cup of tea, grabbed my camera, my mala beads and mug and headed out the door.

Ten minutes later, the present moment was a pink sky.

Sitting on the steps of the war memorial in Mt. Soledad Memorial Park, I experienced the sunrise moment to moment.

I noticed the clouds shift, the color of the sky change, the bright ball of the sun peak over the distant mountain range. At that time, I lived in the present moment.

But as I write about my experience, I am already writing about the past. The sun is already high in the sky. My present moment is now typing on my laptop computer, sitting on my sofa, sharing my morning with all of you.

So as you read this blog, what is your present moment?

Laughter Yoga - it must be Sunday

Every Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Dr. Funshine, Pediatrician turned Comediatrician sets up her Free Laughter Yoga signs along Mission Bay in San Diego and spends the next hour laughing. She's not alone, of course. I'm standing out there in the sunshine too, along with a dozen or so other fun-seekers. Here's a picture of me (in green) and Dr. Funshine (in white with a yellow sun visor of course) doing the Ha Ha, clap clap step (who knows what you call the silly thing) as we walk around in a circle getting lots of oxygen into our lungs with every deep belly laugh. If you've never tried Laughter Yoga, it's really a hoot. It clears your mind of all those nasty worries and problems you've been carrying around all day.

If you don't live in San Diego and can't join us on Mission Bay, check out The Official Laughter Yoga website founded by Dr. Kataria.

Hi everyone,

I've decided to create a separate blog in Blogger to try out all the assignments Suzanne is going to hand out for the class. Looking forward to learning lots of new tricks of the blogging trade.
